Lower San Juan
Full Day Float Only
April-May, September-October
The Lower San Juan River is a scenic desert float with banks lined with cottonwoods and russian olives. Less populated than the upper sections, the lower has a special feel about it. This section of river holds primarily brown trout with an average size of 15-17 inches. There is great opportunity for trophy sized fish through this section of water.
One of the main differences about the lower river compared to the QW of the San Juan is the bug life. The lower is abundant with PMD’s, Caddis, and periodic yellow sally hatches. These hatches make for great spring dry fly fishing and sight fishing opportunities.
Because the river flows have to be right, we cannot float this section year round. Our San Juan River fly fishing guides will ensure you have a great day on the lower river!
Quality Waters (QW)
Half day or Full Day float
January-April, November-December
The most well known section of the San Juan River is known as the Quality Waters. This is a four mile section starting at the mighty Texas hole. Hosting 10,000-12,000 fish per mile, this is a must fish section for anglers.
There is almost always an opportunity for dry fly fishing, sight fishing, and hooking up with big fish. Fishing the San Juan is an experience everyone should have. Join one of our enthusiastic San Juan River fly fishing guides for a day on the water!
